The COVID-19 global pandemic is affecting the employees, businesses and freelancers that make up Canada’s screen-based industries.
However, help is available. Here’s a list of assistance programs that are at your disposal from organizations at the federal, provincial or territorial, and municipal levels. This information will be updated regularly throughout the COVID-19 crisis.

The CMF has announced the Black People and People of Colour Sector Development Support for industry initiatives that are not eligible for funding from other CMF Programs.
The funds are available to both film and television producers that did not receive Phase 1 funding and who meet the eligibility criteria.
This is part of the $27.8M in funding that was designated for Canada’s audiovisual sector as part of Phase 2 of the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund by the Government of Canada.
The funding is being made available to applicants who both previously received COVID-19 Emergency Relief Funds from the CMF Allocation and who meet the definition of a Regional Applicant in the Regional Allocation Criteria.

The $27.8M in funding will provide financial assistance to companies and organizations that were not eligible for the Phase 1.
The funding will be invested through targeted initiatives to ensure equity, including by region, language and for underrepresented groups.
The survey was open between March 23, 2020 and April 6, 2020. In total, 245 IDM companies and 60 self-employed individuals responded to the survey.

Parent companies that have received support in 2017-18, 2018-19 or 2019-20 are eligible to receive funding following a formula outlined in the criteria, with caps ranging between $200K and $800K.
The flexibility measures are designed to give eligible applicants and broadcasters additional latitude in accessing the CMF’s existing programs and navigating its policies and administrative practices.
The Government of Canada will contribute $88.8M to the CMF and $27M to Telefilm. Details of how this new funding will be allocated and disbursed will be announced as soon as possible.
